Alternative Approaches: Link Into Better Health

The body is a holistic being. It needs to be nurtured and treated as a single entity rather than separate parts. As a naturopath, I am acutely aware of the ways in which imbalance in one part of the body can cause pain and discomfort in other seemingly unrelated body parts. I am currently studying to become a chiropractor and these links are becoming even more obvious to me. Over the years, family and friends who were initially sceptical about my medical advice have been amazed by the results when they combine alternative therapies with conventional medicine. I’m sure there are thousands of people out there who could benefit from a different approach to their health. I have started this blog to merely inform about the possibilities and allow readers to make up their own minds. Enjoy reading and best of health to you all!

3 Myths About Pediatric Chiropractic Care

Tamara Fox

Most parents, if not all, want the best for their children. From the moment a child is conceived onwards, a parent's world revolves around the child, making sure they provide everything they possibly can to help their kids lead a long and healthy life. It is precisely what a pediatric chiropractor provides since they lay a solid foundation necessary for good health. However, there are sharp opinions, questions, and misconceptions surrounding pediatric chiropractic care, which affect parents' decisions. This article highlights such misconceptions and lays down the facts.

Children Suffer From Mild Pains

One of the most common misconceptions about pediatric chiropractic care is that children and adults experience pain differently. For instance, some people believe that only adults suffer from lower back pain and not infants. Others do not believe that infants and school-going children are prone to joint and muscle problems. However, nothing could be further from the truth because children are also susceptible to low back pain and joint and muscle discomfort. Therefore, they need regular pediatric chiropractic care to address any problems as and when they occur. Remember that only a pediatric chiropractor can get to the root cause of joint and muscle pain in children.

Pediatric Chiropractic Care Is Dangerous

Chiropractic care involves the gentle manipulation of joints and muscles until the entire system is well-aligned. Sometimes, a chiropractor must apply some force to correct a stubborn joint, sometimes accompanied by popping sounds. The experience makes some people believe that pediatric chiropractic care is dangerous for children. However, it is not true because most people confuse chiropractic care and chiropractic manipulation therapy. Chiropractic manipulation therapy involves manual adjustment of the skeletal system and is usually carried out on adults. On the other hand, chiropractic care is a broad category into which pediatric chiropractic care falls. A pediatric chiropractor understands children's anatomy and alters treatments based on physical changes.

Chiropractic Doctors Cannot Treat Children

Chiropractors must undertake four years of an undergraduate college education. It is then followed by four to five years of professional chiropractic standard. The hands-on approach coupled with the long hours of practical care of both adults and children ensures that a chiropractor can provide the best care to patients. Therefore, although it is advisable to see a chiropractor specialising in children's care, a chiropractor doctor can still offer advice or administer treatment. The reason is that they understand the human body from infancy and will take the necessary precautions when handling children.
