Alternative Approaches: Link Into Better Health

The body is a holistic being. It needs to be nurtured and treated as a single entity rather than separate parts. As a naturopath, I am acutely aware of the ways in which imbalance in one part of the body can cause pain and discomfort in other seemingly unrelated body parts. I am currently studying to become a chiropractor and these links are becoming even more obvious to me. Over the years, family and friends who were initially sceptical about my medical advice have been amazed by the results when they combine alternative therapies with conventional medicine. I’m sure there are thousands of people out there who could benefit from a different approach to their health. I have started this blog to merely inform about the possibilities and allow readers to make up their own minds. Enjoy reading and best of health to you all!

Three Ways Chiropractors Help Improve Children Behaviour

Tamara Fox

Most parents believe that young children should not go through chiropractic manipulation because it is unsafe. However, nothing could be further from the truth because chiropractic care is crucial to a child's overall health and wellbeing. Thus, there is no age limit to when a child should see a chiropractor, with some practitioners attending to kids as young as six months old. In fact, starting young kids with preventative chiropractic care early sets them for a lifetime of good health and wellbeing. Besides helping kids sleep better, boosting immunity, treating and preventing ear infections and enhancing brain development, did you know that chiropractic care has behavioural benefits? This article highlights ways in which a chiropractor can influence your child's behaviour.

Prevents Dependence on Medication

Approximately 1 in 20 children in Australia suffers from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Notably, there are various treatments for ADHD, but physicians often recommend behaviour therapy to strengthen positive behaviours. If a child does not improve with behaviour therapy treatments, a pediatrician can prescribe medication. Unfortunately, using medication alone can lead to dependency problems as a child grows into a teenager. To prevent dependence on medication, pediatricians propose chiropractic care as a complementary therapy. While studies show that chiropractic care improves ADHD symptoms, it should not replace medication. In fact, better results are seen when chiropractic care is combined with ADHD medication. The combination helps reduce children dependency on ADHD, ensuring they grow up free of drug-related behaviour issues.

Eliminates Irritants

A young child with misalignment problems is irritable and can become fussy when you least expect it. For instance, the tension in the spine and other connective tissues causes insomnia, affecting a baby's sleeping cycle. It can lead to unpredictable behaviour in a child, such as arguing with parents about going to bed when they are not sleepy. Therefore, parents should take their kids to a chiropractor as early as possible to prevent such behavioural issues. Chiropractic care relieves kids of irritants that can affect their behaviour in the short or long term. A child who feels and sleeps better is less likely to have behaviour issues.

Tame Anxiety

Anxiety in children presents in various ways, and identifying the root cause is crucial. For instance, some children show fear or extreme worry when anxious, while others become irritable and angry. Such issues can affect a child's relationships with other kids of the same age. Therefore, book an appointment with a chiropractor rather than let your child grow into an anxious mess. Professional chiropractors understand that chiropractic treatment reduces blood pressure and releases feel-good hormones, both of which lower feelings of anxiety.
